The Great Library of Alexandria in Alexandria, Egypt, was one of the largest and most important libraries of the ancient world. The library was part of a research institution, which was dedicated to the Gods of the Nine Arts. The idea of establishing a universal library in Alexandria may have been proposed by Demetrius Phalerum, an exiled Athenian statesman living in Alexandria. The library soon acquired many papyrus manuscripts, largely due to the aggressive and well-financed policies of the Ptolemaic kings for purchasing texts.
The Tombs of Kom el-Shoqafa are a historical archaeological site located in Alexandria, in the Kom el-Shoqafa area, south of the Mina al-Basal neighborhood. It is considered one of the most important cemeteries in the city, and is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World in the Middle Ages. The necropolis consists of a series of Alexandrian tombs, statues and archaeological remains of Pharaonic funerary cult, and because of the time period, many features of the Kom el Shoqafa catacombs combine Roman, Greek and Egyptian cultural points.
Qaitbay Castle is located at the end of Pharos Island in the far west of Alexandria. It was built in the place of the old Alexandria Lighthouse, which was demolished in the year 702 AH as a result of the devastating earthquake that occurred during the reign of Sultan Al-Nasir Muhammad bin Qalawun. Sultan Al-Ashraf Abu Al-Nasr Qaitbay began building this castle in the year 882 AH and finished. It was built in the year 884 AH. The reason for his interest in Alexandria was the many direct threats to Egypt from the Ottoman Empire, which threatened the entire Arab region. The Mamluk Sultan Qansuh al-Ghuri took an interest in the castle, increasing its importance and shipping it with weapons.
